Welcome to our new blog. The Children in Motion Project is devoted to preserving the healthy movement and posture that comes naturally to young children but becomes burdened by sedentary lifestyles, poor models, and harmful habits. We strive to help children maintain their freedom of movement so they can develop healthy posture habits and movement patterns as a foundation for lifelong well-being.
In this blog we'll explore in-depth the benefits of healthy movement on children's physical, intellectual, emotional, and even spiritual development. We'll apply the principles of Multiple Intelligences Theory to our work, and discuss applications to the classroom. We'll develop specific activities across the curriculum, including Language Arts and Reading, Math and Science, Social Studies, Visual Art, Music, Drama, Dance, and more.
The Project aims to raise awareness and promote positive movement and posture habits using the Mitzvah Technique developed by M. Cohen-Nehemia and applied to work with children by Rory Scofield, professional dancer and choreographer and Director of the St. Marys School of Dance, and Richard Omel, D.C., a chiropractor. We are currently collaborating with Enicia Fisher, M.S.Ed, who works with school age children and writes on education topics, to revise and publish our book which will help others apply the Children in Motion Project in their own school, clinical, or home settings.
Please visit regularly to learn more about our unique project and to ask questions about movement, posture, Mitzvah, and the benefits of our program for children (and adults) of all ages.
